Former Wales and New Zealand full-back Shane Howarth has targeted a Cardiff Blues role if one becomes available.
Blues chairman Peter Thomas has stated interim coaches Justin Burnell and Gareth Baber's jobs are under review.
They were given the reins after Dai Young moved to Wasps in the summer.
Howarth, who took over as Papua New Guinea Sevens ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, said: "I would certainly love to be involved in a club as strong as Cardiff Blues."
Howarth won four New Zealand caps in 1994, but under the International Rugby Board rules of the time he went on to play for Wales under then-coach Graham Henry, making his debut against South Africa in 1998.
But two years later Howarth's Test career came to an end when it was discovered he did not have a Welsh grandparent.
He moved from Sale to Newport in 1999 and ended his playing career there in 2003.
Since then Howarth's coaching experiences have included stints as an assistant Super 14 coach with Auckland Blues and Auckland, in New Zealand's inter-provincial competitions.
At the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010, Howarth saw his team make the bowl final, but he is now keen to move on.

Howarth said: "I came from the Auckland Blues after two years of Super 14 so it was kind of like from the penthouse to the outhouse in terms of budgets and what you get to work with.
"But I've thoroughly enjoyed it, but my time, probably here, is coming to an end because my family doesn't live with me so it's too hard being away from them.
"So certainly come December I'll be looking for other roles throughout the world.
"I've obviously been in Wales and loved it and I'm pretty determined to get back up there in any sort of coaching capacity.
"I would be very keen. I'd certainly put my name in.
"I haven't done anything towards that yet, but I'll keep an eye out for the application forms and the requirements.
"But I would certainly love to be involved in a club as strong as Cardiff Blues.
"Obviously they probably wouldn't like me at my old club [Newport] for a couple of months or so.
"But I am determined to get back up into Wales and Europe to coach.
"I really enjoyed my time in Wales.
"I loved the people and I'd love to give something back so yes, I'd be very interested in Cardiff Blues."
Shaun Edwards, Robert Howley and New Zealand's World Cup-winning coach Graham Henry have also been linked with the Blues.
But chairman Thomas has stated Henry is not an option and former Wales lock Derwyn Jones believes erstwhile Wales defence coach Edwards also falls into that category.
Edwards has parted company with Wasps, where he had coached for 10 years following a glittering rugby league career.
