Marland was one of the founding directors of Jardine Lloyd Thomson plc,[1] a multinational insurance business and also founded AppleClaim, the insurance company, at Lloyd's of London. He led the acquisitions of Hunter Wellington Boots, and Insurance Capital Partners.
In 2007 he led the closure of the British manufacturing operations of Hunter Wellington Boots and remove of the manufacturing of the Hunter product range offshore, largely to Chinese owned and run factories within China.[2]
