White Knight Rides To Vermonts Rescue

Will Alsop's distinctively designed tower set to stand on Salford Quays could be saved from financial oblivion if a bid to rescue the developer gets pulled off.
The present developer, Vermont Developments, has gone to the wall following troubles with the credit crunch that has seen financing to pay for their future projects dry up and them having no way of paying current bills.
Downing Corporate Finance are reported to be looking at stepping in with funds that can help them realise the £40 million development, a sure sign that at least some people still believe in the city centre property market in Manchester and Salford and that unique, well designed schemes do have a future.
At 27 floors and approximately 85 metres in height, the building located on Adelphi Street will contain 221 new apartments in the block, a large chunk of which will be marketed for students, plus 3,300 square metres of new commercial space and parking for 120 cars.
If it does go up, it will also be the tallest building ever built in the U.K that has been designed by Will Alsop. In this case it has a notable glass cocoon wrapping around the outside of the lower levels and multi coloured cladding that is sure to make it a local landmark.
Despite being one of the most famous architects in the country he has had few of his projects built thanks to their outlandish colours and some unconventional approaches to architecture in a world that prefers the safe option.
