First Park Place Images

Developer, Grattan Place, has unveiled the first images of their planned office skyscraper at Westferry Circus, Canary Wharf.
Situated at 1 Park Place, the tower will be a slim-line building standing 183 metres tall with 45 floors that runs along the site from north to south with a shorter attached section on the eastern side of the plot that rises to the 16th level, roughly following the roof level of Cabot Square next door, and is topped by a large roof terrace that will be accesibile for occupiers of the offices.
The design is of the scheme is reminiscent of some of the Heron Quays towers at Canary Wharf with a blocky monumental look and an International style outer glass skin.
The difference comes from diagonal cladding lines running up and along 1 Park Place that helps to break up the monolithic appearance in a way that its blander neighbours don't benefit from.
Proposals for the development are still at early stages with the public consultation currently being carried out before a planning application is officially filed. Once it does it's unlikely to encounter much opposition, not least because the scheme will sit virtually between several planned skyscrapers and have little impact on a wider scale hidden largely by its neighbours.
There is the possibility that Canary Wharf will not be entirely happy with such a tall building going on the edge of their estate but as the area becomes more and more like an organically developing CDB this gradual spread of tall buildings outside their boundaries is something they will have to learn to live with.
