Three More Docklands Towers Planned

Published on 04-09-2008 by Skyscrapernews.com
A joint venture between three developers in London's Docklands could see one of the tallest residential skyscrapers ever proposed for London.

Located off just south of Canary Wharf off Marsh Wall around 3 Millharbour, the trio of developers Ballymore, Oracle & Galliard are hoping to get a scheme through the planning process so large it will completely rip up the original Millennium Quarter Masterplan that was drafted by Tower Hamlets council.

The Millennium Quarter masterplan originally had a top limit of 25 floors or 110 metres for each building plot as evidenced by Arrowhead Quay but is now considered by many to be woefully inadequate given the demand for the land the buildings would sit on.

The plot takes in both the Great Eastern Enterprise and the nearby Audi Showroom and if early indications are to be believed will see three buildings built ranging up to 200 metres tall with Foster and Partners reportedly working on the designs.

The tallest building, a 50 storey residential that appears to soar thanks to its relatively high height to width ratio will sit on the Audi site opposite the Hilton Hotel. The two shorter blocks, one 27 floors and the other 21 floors will wrap around a new enclosed space with the shortest element stepping up providing substantial amounts of terraces for occupants to enjoy.

The site will not see immediate redevelopment but is part of the longer term plan by all three of the partners to increase the amount of holdings they have in the Docklands area of London.
