Chelsea Creek Sees 128m Tower Planned

It's been a long time coming but firm plans are now starting to surface for one of the key undeveloped site in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham that could well see the construction of a new 40 floor tower rising 128 metres tall.
The site of the scheme, named Chelsea Creek by the developer St George, has Imperial Road to its south, listed gasholder frames to the west whilst the northern part of the site is bounded by a railway line with Imperial Wharf Station neighbouring the far eastern point of the plot.
The plans draw on justifying the tower by stating that there is already the Chelsea Harbour Tower in the area along with approved plans to build two towers at Lots Road power station, all of which represents a slow moving but emerging residential cluster.
The proposals see the tower itself rise from an island set in Chelsea Creek that's accessed via a walkway - something of a first for London. With a strong vertical form and a curving top, the tower draws its inspiration from the likes of the St Louis Arch and EDF's skyscraper in Paris, although these both lack the stepped top seen here.
As well as the tower plans St George also plans to regenerate the area of the dock with a number of improvements including the restoration of the existing dock wall, the retention of cobbled pavements, the creation of a new urban park four acres in size, and connect the site in with the neighbouring area better to help create a more cohesive neighbourhood.
A number of low-rise blocks are also planned arranged around several boulevards, complete with raised courtyards that will add up to 1.4 acres of space for the residents to enjoy. The central route through the development will lead to the planned park and an observation area overlooking the dockside that will give commanding views of the tower.
In total the developer plans to build 1,300 new homes plus 3,250 square metres of office space and 2,750 square metres of new retail.
That said, no matter how great the plans are, they will have a fight on their hands. It look years for the Lots Road plans to get the go-ahead thanks to opposition from local campaigners, and there's no reason to think they won't be just as oppositional here.
